A tragic incident occurred at Nagpur Railway Station on Sunday afternoon when a man lost his life after coming into contact with a live overhead electric wire while climbing atop a train. The event took place on platform number 8 and briefly disrupted the railway power supply.
Details of the Incident
According to initial reports, the unidentified man, believed to be around 35 years old, arrived at the station in the afternoon. At approximately 3:45 pm, he suddenly climbed onto a coal-laden goods train stationed on the goods siding of the platform. Within moments, he came into contact with the Overhead Equipment (OHE) wire, receiving a severe electric shock. He fell onto the platform and died on the spot.
Impact and Response
The impact of the incident also led to damage to the OHE wire, briefly affecting power supply in the section. Railway authorities promptly dispatched an OHE maintenance van to the site, and repairs were carried out to restore normal operations.
Officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived at the scene and sent the body for post-mortem to Mayo Hospital. Police Inspector Gaurav Gavande stated that the identity of the deceased has not yet been established. A case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Possible Motive and Investigation
Preliminary assessment suggests that the deceased may have been a homeless person or suffering from mental illness, though authorities are working to confirm his identity. The police are examining CCTV footage and questioning witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
