A 32-year-old man was discovered dead in a suspected suicide at his in-laws' residence in southeast Delhi on Sunday. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Gautampuri area of Badarpur, with police pointing to ongoing marital problems as a primary factor.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
The police control room received a distress call around 9 am on Sunday reporting a domestic dispute at the house. A team was promptly dispatched to the location. The deceased has been identified as Ajab Singh, a resident of Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh.
Initial investigations reveal that Singh had travelled to Delhi to persuade his wife to return home with him, as the couple was experiencing marital difficulties. However, his plea was reportedly turned down by her family members present at the house.
Locked Room and Discovery of the Body
Following the refusal, a distressed Ajab Singh locked himself inside a room on the first floor of the house. When police officers arrived, they found the room's door locked from the inside.
"The door had to be broken open," a police officer stated. "Inside, Singh was found hanging from a ceiling fan." No suicide note was recovered from the scene. Family members present, including Singh's father, have indicated they do not suspect any foul play, and their statements have been officially recorded.
Police Investigation and Ongoing Proceedings
Authorities have stated that no immediate signs of foul play have been detected. The primary line of inquiry suggests Singh was under significant mental stress due to the marital discord.
An officer involved in the case mentioned, "The exact circumstances that led him to take this extreme step will be clearer once the inquest proceedings are complete and after we receive the post-mortem report."
The body has been sent to the AIIMS mortuary for a thorough post-mortem examination. The police are continuing their investigation to piece together the final hours before the tragic incident.
