Teen uses wall cutter to break into Bengaluru shop, steals silver worth Rs 12.5 lakh
In a daring heist in Bengaluru, a teenager allegedly used a wall cutter tool to cut through the wall of a jewellery shop and made off with silver ornaments valued at Rs 12.50 lakh. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when the shop owner arrived to find a gaping hole in the wall and the display cases ransacked.
How the theft was executed
According to the police, the accused, a 19-year-old, targeted the shop located in the densely populated area of KR Puram. He used a power tool to cut a circular hole approximately 2 feet in diameter through the brick-and-mortar wall. Once inside, he scooped up around 10 kg of silver jewellery, including chains, bangles, and anklets, before fleeing the scene. The entire operation is believed to have taken place between midnight and 4 am.
Police investigation underway
Senior police officials said that CCTV footage from nearby establishments showed a lone individual on a motorcycle approaching the shop. The footage is being analyzed to identify the suspect. “We have formed multiple teams to track down the accused. Preliminary evidence suggests he acted alone and had prior knowledge of the shop’s layout,” a police officer said on condition of anonymity.
Rising trend of wall-cutting robberies
This incident has raised concerns among local traders about the increasing use of power tools in burglaries. In the past six months, at least four similar cases have been reported in Bengaluru where thieves used wall cutters or drills to break into shops. The Silver Merchants Association has urged the police to increase night patrols and install better surveillance in commercial hubs.
The stolen silver ornaments are yet to be recovered. The shop owner, who has been running the business for over 20 years, said he was shocked by the brazenness of the crime. “We never imagined someone would cut through a solid wall. We are cooperating with the police and hope the culprit is caught soon,” he said.
