Thiruvananthapuram: Vanchiyoor police have arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his wife and attempting to murder her over a dispute regarding gold ornaments.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Shambhu Dev of Palkulangara, had been reportedly demanding gold from the woman, a native of Pettah, throughout their relationship. When she refused to hand over more ornaments, he attacked her with a stick, striking her on the head and body, causing serious injuries.
Victim's Condition
The woman was immediately hospitalised following the assault. Medical officials have stated that her condition is currently stable.
Accused's Criminal Background
Police investigations revealed that Shambhu Dev has a criminal background. A total of nine cases, including assault and drug-related offences, have been registered against him at Vanchiyoor and Medical College police stations.
Legal Proceedings
After his arrest, Shambhu Dev was produced before a court. The court has remanded him in judicial custody as the case proceeds.
