Barwani: A man was arrested and 936 litres of illegal toxic spirit was seized during a raid in Chikhli village under Warla police station limits on Friday.
Acting on a tip-off that a large quantity of illegal spirit was being stored in a shed behind a house in Bamania Phalia locality of Chikhli village, Warla police station in-charge formed a special team and rushed to the spot, Sendhwa Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajay Waghmare told TOI.
Police cordoned off the area and detained Prakash, a resident of Chikhli. A search of the shed led to the recovery of four blue plastic drums containing 936 litres of illegal toxic spirit, intended for use in making of illicit liquor.
Spirit is industrial-grade alcohol that is unsafe for human consumption. It may contain methanol and other harmful chemicals that can cause blindness, organ damage, or death, the SDOP said.
Warla police station in-charge Narayan Rawal told TOI that a case was registered against the accused under Sections 34 and 49(A) of the Excise Act and he was produced before the court which sent him to police remand.
