A 35-year-old man was killed in a scuffle while boarding a train at Shahdara station in Delhi, police said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday evening when the victim, identified as Rajesh Dhama, a resident of Ghaziabad, was trying to board a train at the station.
Altercation Leads to Assault
According to police, an altercation broke out between Dhama and some co-passengers while boarding. The argument quickly escalated into a physical scuffle. Police said that preliminary investigation revealed that Dhama was assaulted with punches and kicks by co-passengers during the altercation.
Victim Succumbs to Injuries
Dhama sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Senior police officials reached the spot and launched an investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Probe Underway
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rakesh Pawar said, We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The accused are being identified with the help of CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. No arrests have been made so far. Further investigation is underway.
Police are questioning passengers and railway staff to ascertain the sequence of events. The incident has raised concerns about passenger safety at railway stations.
