Chandigarh police have arrested a 30-year-old resident of Karnal for allegedly raping a woman and blackmailing her. The accused, who has studied only up to Class X, allegedly posed as an MBBS doctor to lure the complainant, a 22-year-old woman from Manimajra.
How the accused gained trust
According to the police, the complainant came in contact with the accused on social media in 2025. The accused allegedly told her that he was in the process of going abroad. When the woman expressed her desire to go abroad as well, the accused offered to help her and took her documents. Over time, he gained her trust and called her to a hotel in Daria, Chandigarh.
The crime and blackmail
The complainant stated that when she arrived at the hotel, the accused raped her and recorded an obscene video. He then repeatedly used the video to blackmail her. Eventually, the woman filed a police complaint, leading to the arrest.
Investigation ongoing
Police are investigating whether the accused targeted other women in a similar manner. They are also examining digital platforms and contacts he used. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
