A man posing as an aide of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has allegedly swindled crores of rupees from senior party functionaries by promising them assembly tickets and influential positions. The accused, identified as Gaurav Kumar, a resident of Amritsar, was arrested by the police following a complaint.
Modus Operandi
According to the police, Kumar targeted senior Congress leaders in Uttarakhand and several other states. He allegedly claimed to have close connections with Rahul Gandhi and assured the victims that he could secure them party tickets for upcoming elections or high-ranking posts within the organization. In exchange for these promises, he demanded and received substantial sums of money.
Investigation and Arrest
The fraud came to light when some of the victims, after failing to receive the promised tickets or positions, approached the police. A thorough investigation led to Kumar's arrest. The police are currently probing the extent of his network and whether he had any accomplices.
