In a significant breakthrough, the Mangaluru city police have arrested an accused who had been evading arrest since 2018 in connection with theft and cattle-slaughter prohibition cases. The individual had multiple non-bailable warrants (NBWs) issued against him by the courts.
Arrest of Long-Term Absconder
City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH confirmed that the arrested accused is Abubakkar Siddique, also known as Capri Siddique, a resident of Pavalike in Uppala, Kasaragod district. According to the police, three non-bailable warrants were pending against him in cases registered at the Ullal, Konaje, and Kankanady police stations.
Evading Court Proceedings for Nearly Eight Years
Police reports indicate that the accused had been deliberately avoiding court proceedings and remained a fugitive for approximately eight years. His prolonged evasion had made him a priority target for law enforcement agencies in the region.
Special Operation Leads to Capture
A dedicated special team was formed to trace and apprehend the absconding warrant accused. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the accused's movements, a team led by PSI Siddappa successfully tracked him down and executed his arrest. The operation was conducted with precision, ensuring no further delays in bringing the accused to justice.
Legal Proceedings Initiated
Following his arrest, the accused was handed over to the Ullal police station for further legal procedures. He was subsequently produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police authorities have stated that all necessary legal actions will be taken to ensure the accused faces the consequences of his alleged crimes.
This arrest underscores the commitment of the Mangaluru city police to apprehend long-term fugitives and uphold the rule of law. The successful operation also serves as a warning to others attempting to evade legal proceedings.
