In a shocking incident from Kerala's Pathanamthitta district, police have arrested two young men for allegedly orchestrating a deliberate road accident to injure a woman, only to later pose as her rescuer in a twisted bid to win her trust and sympathy.
The Devious Plot Unfolds
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ranjith Rajan, aged 24, from Mammood, and Ajas, aged 19, from Payyanamon. Both are residents of Konni. According to the police investigation, the entire scheme was masterminded by the first accused, Ranjith Rajan, with the sole intention of gaining the sympathy of the woman's family and ultimately winning her over.
The plan was put into motion on December 23, around 5:30 PM. The victim, a young woman, was returning to her home on her scooter after attending a coaching session in Adoor. As she reached Vazhamuttam East near Pathanamthitta, Ajas, following Rajan's instructions, trailed her in a car and deliberately hit her scooter.
A Calculated Rescue and Mounting Suspicion
Immediately after the collision, Ajas fled the scene. In a premeditated move, Ranjith Rajan arrived at the spot shortly afterwards, driving an MUV. He pretended to be the woman's husband and took the injured victim to the Believers Church hospital in Konni.
The woman sustained serious injuries in the staged crash, including a dislocated right shoulder, a fracture in her little finger, and multiple bruises and injuries across her body. Initially, based on her statement, the police registered a case of a vehicular accident.
However, Rajan's suspiciously timely arrival at the accident site raised red flags for the investigating officers. This prompted them to dig deeper, leading them to examine Ajas's mobile phone call records. The digital trail helped police connect the dots and unravel the sinister plot.
From Accident to Attempted Murder
As the truth emerged, the police added a grave charge of attempted murder against the two accused. A police officer involved in the case revealed the twisted motive behind the crime, stating, "The accused believed they could manipulate emotions by creating fear and gratitude."
The officer further emphasized the severe consequences of their actions, noting, "But their plan caused serious harm and could have ended in a tragedy." The investigation is being led by Pathanamthitta police sub-inspector Alexkutty S. Both accused have been presented before a court following their arrest.
This bizarre case serves as a stark warning about the lengths to which individuals can go to manipulate and deceive. The Pathanamthitta police's alertness in questioning the seemingly coincidental rescue prevented the perpetrators from succeeding in their dangerous scheme.
