In a shocking incident of road rage in Prayagraj, a serving Military Intelligence Wing jawan was brutally assaulted and later died from his injuries. The tragic event has led to the arrest of five individuals, including a police sub-inspector.
Details of the Fatal Assault
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Vivek Kumar Singh, was posted with the Military Intelligence Unit. He had travelled to Prayagraj to attend a wedding ceremony. The violence erupted in the intervening night of November 29 and 30.
According to DCP (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Chandra Yadav, Singh was returning with friends to the Darbara area by car after the wedding. A dispute over overtaking with another group travelling in an SUV escalated rapidly. The miscreants from the SUV allegedly launched a vicious attack on the jawan, leaving him critically injured.
Victim Succumbs, Accused Arrested
Following the assault, family members rushed the critically injured Vivek Kumar Singh to a hospital in Lucknow for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries late on Sunday night.
Police acted swiftly, registering an FIR under section 103 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Karchana police station. The five named accused are:
- Raj Kamal Pandey, a sub-inspector posted in Mirzapur district police.
- Dinesh Kumar Yadav, a lawyer and the vehicle owner.
- Rajiv Thakur, an Army man.
- Bhai Lal Yadav.
- Raju Agrahari.
All the accused are residents of Naini. The DCP confirmed that all five individuals have been arrested by the police in connection with the case.

This grave incident has sent shockwaves through the community and highlights the deadly consequences of road rage. The death of a young serviceman in such a senseless manner has raised serious concerns about public safety and anger management on roads.
