Kanpur: The vigilance team on Friday caught mining inspector Sanjay Prasad and his driver red-handed in Farrukhabad for taking a Rs 24,000 bribe to grant mining permission.

The complaint was lodged by Adesh Yadav, son of a former district panchayat member and a resident of village Harsinghpur Gova in Farrukhabad district.

According to Yadav, he had sought mining permission from Prasad, who allegedly demanded a bribe.

On Friday afternoon, the mining inspector was at his residence in Officers Colony in Fatehgarh. Adesh reached there to hand over the bribe. The inspector's driver, Pankaj, was also present. Instead of taking the Rs 24,000 himself, Prasad allegedly asked his driver to collect the money.

The driver then handed over the money to the inspector, following which the anti-corruption team apprehended both Prasad and Pankaj. The chemical-marked currency was also recovered. The vigilance team took them to Kotwali Fatehgarh for further legal proceedings.
