17-Year-Old Kharghar Girl Rescued After 6 Days, Accused Booked Under POCSO
Minor girl rescued after 6-day abduction in Navi Mumbai

In a significant breakthrough, the Navi Mumbai police have successfully rescued a 17-year-old girl from Kharghar who was allegedly abducted and held for six days. The minor has been safely reunited with her family, while the accused, a 29-year-old man, faces serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police Crack Case Using CCTV Footage

The ordeal began a few months ago when the girl left her home. She told her younger sister she was heading to the residence where her mother worked as a domestic helper. However, she never arrived at that location and failed to return home by late evening.

Her family, growing increasingly worried, searched for her past midnight. When their efforts proved futile, her father, who works as a labourer, approached the Kharghar police station and filed a formal missing person complaint.

The investigation team, led by Senior Inspector Ajay Kamble, swiftly scanned available CCTV footage from the area. The crucial break came when footage revealed the victim riding pillion on a motorcycle with an unidentified man.

Arrest and Rescue Operation

Tracking the vehicle's registration number led the police to the owner's details and address in Owe Peth village, Kharghar. The suspect, identified as Ajay Kumar Janzorad (29), was apprehended from his residence.

During interrogation, Janzorad led the police officers to a labour camp in Kalamboli, where he had been keeping the minor girl. The police team promptly rescued her and handed her over to her relieved parents.

Medical Report Leads to POCSO Charges

The case took a more serious turn following the minor's medical examination. A medical test conducted at the Panvel sub-district hospital confirmed she had been in a sexual relationship. Based on this critical evidence and the fact that the victim is a minor, the police have invoked relevant sections of the stringent POCSO Act against Ajay Kumar Janzorad.

Senior Inspector Ajay Kamble confirmed the sequence of events and the charges. The police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details surrounding the abduction and the nature of the relationship established between the accused and the victim.

This incident highlights the vigilance of the Navi Mumbai police in using technological tools like CCTV for investigation and their prompt action in applying the POCSO Act to ensure justice for minors in cases of sexual exploitation.
