A tragic multi-vehicle collision in Morjim late Wednesday night left a young woman dead and two men critically injured. The accident involved a speeding Mahindra Thar, two scooters, and a parked goods carrier, according to police reports.
Driver Arrested After Fleeing Scene
Police arrested the driver, 45-year-old Vikram Ashok Gaba, a Haryana native residing in Calangute, on Thursday. He allegedly fled the scene after the crash. An FIR has been registered against Gaba under BNS Sections 281 (rash driving), 125(a) (hurt caused by a rash and negligent act), 125(b) (grievous hurt caused by a rash or negligent act), and 106 (causing death by negligence).
Illegal Rental Leads to Additional Charges
Police also registered an offence against Roheet Rathod of Candolim for allegedly illegally renting the Thar to Gaba. The woman killed in the crash has not yet been identified, as her body was mangled beyond recognition.
Injured Victims Identified
The injured persons were identified as Devashish Samal, 32, and Gatish Samal, 35, both from Odisha. They are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
How the Accident Unfolded
According to police, Gaba lost control of the Thar, hit the two-wheelers, struck the parked tempo, and overturned. Locals helped the victims and alerted emergency services. The accident occurred at around 11pm at Morjim on Wednesday.
