Mortar Shell Evidence Shifts Hazaribag Blast Investigation

Investigators made a crucial discovery at the site of a deadly explosion in Hazaribag. They found a mortar tail buried in the debris. This finding suggests the blast may not have come from a crude bomb as first thought.

Three Lives Lost in Wednesday's Explosion

A powerful explosion rocked the Habibinagar locality on Wednesday. It claimed three lives. The victims included Mohammad Saddam, his wife Nanhi Parveen, and Rashida Parveen. The blast caused severe injuries across their entire bodies.

Forensic Teams Uncover Key Evidence

A joint team from the Forensic Science Laboratory and the state bomb disposal unit inspected the spot. They recovered the tail unit of a mortar shell. The team also collected several other items from the site.

  • Fragments of bricks
  • An axe and its broken handle
  • Pieces of a plastic flower pot
  • Some metallic residues
  • Blood samples

All seized materials have been properly sealed. They were sent for forensic examination in Ranchi.

Investigation Expands with New Findings

A police officer involved in the investigation spoke about the implications. The presence of a mortar unit points to the use of improvised explosive material. Forensic experts will confirm this soon.

"The investigation has now expanded," an officer said. "Every possible link, including sourcing of explosives, is being verified."

Authorities cordoned off the area. Further searches are underway to rule out additional explosive material.

Official Statement from Hazaribag SP

Hazaribag SP Anjani Anjan addressed the media on Friday. He confirmed the incident was not due to any crude bomb. The forensic team took away all collected evidence from the spot.

"Further confirmation will come from the forensic lab in Ranchi soon after the test," Anjan stated. Investigators are now waiting for the official report.
