The Madhya Pradesh High Court has scheduled June 30 for the final hearing of a petition challenging the appointments of law officers by the Advocate General's office. A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal fixed the date after examining the petition filed by Yogesh Soni, joint secretary of the High Court Bar Association, Jabalpur.
Allegations of Arbitrary Appointments
Yogesh Soni alleged that the appointments of government lawyers by the Advocate General's office were arbitrary and violated prescribed norms. He claimed that advocates without requisite qualifications had been included in the panel. The controversy pertains to the appointment of 157 law officers on December 25, 2025.
Experience Requirement
The petitioner contended that a minimum experience of 10 years in legal practice is mandatory to hold the post of legal officer. However, many lawyers appointed to the panel do not possess the requisite experience, according to the petition.
The bench deferred further hearing in the case until the final hearing date. The court's decision will address the validity of the appointments and adherence to the prescribed norms.
