Mumbai Court Sends Drug Overdose Accused to Police Custody

A magistrate court in Mumbai on Monday ordered that two accused individuals in the suspected drug overdose deaths case be transferred from judicial custody to police custody until May 8. The Vanrai police had sought the custody of Ayush Sahitya and Vineet Gerelani to conduct joint questioning with the primary accused, Mahesh Khemlani, who was arrested on May 1.

Police Investigation and International Links

Police suspect that Khemlani may have been involved in supplying drugs to Sahitya and Gerelani. Authorities are investigating whether there is any international connection to the drug supply chain. They also aim to determine if further recoveries can be made based on information provided by Gerelani and Sahitya.

Defense Objections

Opposing the police request, Gerelani's lawyer, Arjun Jeswani, argued that his client had already been questioned for eight days in police custody last month and had never made any international trips. The court, however, granted the police custody to facilitate further investigation.
