Speeding MUV Collides with Five in Jalgaon Village; Driver Escapes Scene
A multi-utility vehicle (MUV) traveling at high speed struck five individuals in Hartale village, located in the Muktainagar area of Jalgaon district, on Thursday morning. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victims injured.
Police Register Case and Uncover Suspicious Evidence
The Muktainagar police have filed a case against the MUV driver under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) for rash and negligent driving. Inspector Ashish Adsul of the Muktainagar police station provided details of the incident.
"The accident occurred near Hartale village on the Mumbai–Nagpur highway," Adsul stated. "A farmer and four workers, who were gathered at their usual spot waiting for daily employment opportunities, were discussing a potential job when the MUV, which was on the service road, suddenly rammed into them."
Injuries and Discovery of Fake Plates and Batons
While the four workers sustained minor injuries, the farmer suffered more significant harm. Upon inspecting the MUV, police and local citizens made a startling discovery: the vehicle bore two registration number plates, indicating possible fraudulent activity.
Further examination revealed two batons inside the MUV, similar to those carried by police personnel. This finding has raised additional questions about the vehicle's ownership and the intentions of its occupants.
Investigation Traces Owner but Driver Remains at Large
Using the chassis number of the MUV, investigators successfully traced the vehicle's owner to Muktainagar. The owner informed police that he had rented out the MUV to another individual, but this person has not yet been located.
"Once arrested, the reason behind putting a fake number plate and the two batons in the SUV will become clear," Inspector Adsul emphasized, highlighting the ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspect.
The incident has sparked concerns about road safety and potential criminal elements operating in the area, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
