In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the Nagpur Rural Police successfully intercepted a drug deal and arrested one individual on Sunday. The operation led to the confiscation of a substantial quantity of MD powder, highlighting the force's vigilant efforts against drug trafficking in the region.
Tip-Off Leads to Major Drug Bust
Acting on specific intelligence about suspicious activity, a dedicated team from the Bori police station intensified patrolling in the Sai Layout area, located close to Borkhedi Gate. During their surveillance, the officers' attention was drawn to a car parked in a dubious manner next to a railway culvert.
As the police team approached the vehicle, the driver managed to flee the scene, evading capture. However, a man standing near the car was immediately apprehended. The police identified him as Mangesh Gopal Bhondge, a 34-year-old labourer from Meta Umri in Hingna taluka.
Recovery and Arrest Details
Upon searching Bhondge, the police team discovered and recovered 52.3 grams of MD (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine) powder from his possession. The authorities have estimated the street value of the seized narcotics to be approximately Rs 2.6 lakh.
Following the recovery, the police formally placed Mangesh Gopal Bhondge under arrest. A formal case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which carries stringent penalties.
Ongoing Investigation and Wider Impact
The Nagpur Rural Police have confirmed that the investigation is actively progressing. A primary focus of the ongoing probe is to trace the supplier and the broader network involved in the distribution of these drugs. Officials are analyzing leads to identify the absconding driver and other potential associates.

Such actions are crucial in disrupting the supply chain of illicit substances and safeguarding the community, particularly the youth, from their harmful effects. The police have urged citizens to continue providing credible information to aid in similar crackdowns.
