The Nashik City police have arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was discovered stuffed inside a luggage bag and abandoned along the Godavari river in the Tapovan area. The site falls under the jurisdiction of the Adgaon police station.
Discovery and Investigation
The woman's body was found on the morning of June 16. Following a detailed investigation, the Adgaon police apprehended the accused, identified as Gopinath Ravindra Gosavi, a resident of Rahulnagar in Upnagar, Nashik. The suspect was detained in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Shekhar Deshmukh stated that after receiving information about Gosavi's involvement in the murder, the police tracked him through Kalyan, Ratnagiri, Goa, and Karnataka. He had taken shelter at his in-laws' residence in Mangaluru.
Motive and Confession
Deshmukh added that Gosavi and the deceased woman, identified as Sunita Vishwakarma, were having an extramarital affair. The woman had separated from her husband and was living alone near Gosavi's residence. On June 13, the two got into an argument over some issue, after which Gosavi allegedly throttled her to death and dumped her body along the river in Tapovan.
A senior police official said that after allegedly murdering Vishwakarma, Gosavi told his brother what happened. However, his brother initially ignored him, assuming that he was speaking under the influence of alcohol. When the news spread of a woman's body being found in a luggage bag, the brother realized the truth and contacted the Upnagar police to tip them off about Gosavi.
The accused is married and was residing with his second wife at the time of the incident.
