Nashik Police Report Sharp Drop in Nylon Manja Cases Before Makar Sankranti
Nashik Sees Drop in Nylon Manja Cases Before Festival

Nashik city police report a significant decrease in nylon manja cases as Makar Sankranti approaches on January 14. This year, authorities registered just seven cases related to the banned kite thread. Last year, they recorded over forty cases around the same time.

Police Action Yields Results

Officers seized nylon manja worth approximately three lakh rupees last month. Assistant Commissioner of Police Sandeep Mitke explained the police externed 137 individuals from Nashik city this year. These people had previous records of selling the dangerous thread.

Targeted Externment Drive

Police externed 73 people from Zone 1 and 64 from Zone 2 between January 1 and 15. Authorities believed these sellers would resume illegal activities during the festival period. This proactive measure contributed to the reduced menace.

Officials maintain strict vigil on nylon manja use for kite flying. They attribute the comparative decline to decisive action against sellers. The police strategy focuses on prevention through enforcement.

Deadly History of Nylon Manja

Nylon manja causes serious injuries every year. Last year, a twenty-three-year-old youth died when sharp manja slashed his throat while he rode a two-wheeler. In November 2024, a nine-year-old boy succumbed to nylon manja injuries.

Tragic Past Incidents

Another fatal case occurred in December 2020. A thirty-five-year-old woman died while returning home from her Ambad office. Nylon manja slit her throat on the Mumbai-Agra flyover near Dwarka.

The sharp string entangled near her throat, causing her to fall from her two-wheeler. She lay in a pool of blood before being taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, she died from the manja injury.

These tragic incidents highlight the dangers of nylon manja. Nashik police continue their efforts to prevent similar occurrences. Their current approach shows promising results with fewer cases this festival season.
