New Delhi Metro Station was closed indefinitely on Thursday amid a protest by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) group. The interchange facility, which connects the Yellow Line and Airport Express Line, will remain unavailable until further notice, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) confirmed.
Protest Details
The protest, led by CJP activists, began early Thursday morning near the station's concourse area, demanding action against alleged human rights violations. According to DMRC officials, the closure was necessary to ensure commuter safety. "We are closely monitoring the situation and will reopen the station once it is safe," said a DMRC spokesperson.
Impact on Commuters
Over 50,000 daily commuters are affected by the closure. Passengers using the interchange are advised to use alternative stations such as Rajiv Chowk or Central Secretariat. Bus services have been augmented on affected routes. "I had to walk 2 km to catch a bus. This is very inconvenient," said commuter Ravi Sharma.
Alternative Arrangements
DMRC has deployed additional staff to guide passengers and manage crowds at adjacent stations. Security has been tightened, and police are monitoring the protest. The CJP has vowed to continue until their demands are met.
