In a swift administrative move, the Kalaburagi Central Jail has a new superintendent following the circulation of a shocking viral video that exposed illicit activities within the prison walls. The video, which showed inmates allegedly enjoying 'royal hospitality', has prompted a major reshuffle and a high-level investigation.
New Leadership Takes Charge
Rajesh Kamble has been promoted and posted as the new superintendent of Kalaburagi Central Jail. He was previously serving as the assistant superintendent of Ramnagara Jail. His appointment comes directly in the wake of the controversy that has embarrassed the prison department.
Interestingly, the current superintendent, Dr. Anita, has not yet been reassigned to any other location. As of now, no separate government order regarding her posting has been issued, leaving her status in limbo amidst the ongoing probe.
The Viral Video That Sparked the Crisis
A few days ago, a video from inside Kalaburagi Central Jail, located on the outskirts of Kalaburagi city, spread rapidly across social media platforms. The footage allegedly showed prisoners engaged in gambling, smoking, and drinking—activities strictly prohibited within correctional facilities. This incident is not isolated; earlier, a video involving RD Patil, the alleged kingpin in the PSI recruitment scam, also went viral from the same jail.
High-Level Probe and Inspection
Responding to the serious breach of security and discipline, the prison authorities constituted a special investigation team. This team is headed by Additional Inspector General of Prisons, PV Ananda Reddy, and has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive investigation into the viral video case.
Adding to the scrutiny, Director General of Police (DGP) Prisons, Alok Kumar, personally visited the Kalaburagi Jail on Saturday. He conducted a thorough inspection of the premises to assess the situation firsthand and likely to review security protocols. The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine how such activities were permitted and to identify those responsible.
The appointment of a new superintendent signals the department's attempt to restore order and accountability. However, the unresolved status of the previous superintendent and the pending investigation results indicate that this scandal is far from over. The incident raises significant questions about governance and security within the state's prison system.
