NHRC Seeks Report on Teen's Death in Koderma Hostel

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of the death of a 16-year-old student inside his hostel room at a private school in Jhumri Tilaiya, Koderma district, on May 3. Acting on a complaint filed by Ranchi-based social activist Vaidnath Kumar on May 27, the commission issued a notice on June 16, seeking a detailed action taken report from the Koderma deputy commissioner and superintendent of police within two weeks.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Police registered a case following a complaint lodged by the deceased Udit Raj's father, Vijay Kumar Yadav, who alleged foul play and claimed his son was murdered. In his statement, Yadav said his son had earlier complained to his brother and nephew about harassment. He also accused the school management of negligence, alleging that authorities failed to use an available vehicle on campus to shift Udit for timely medical assistance.

During investigation, police recovered live bullets from the hostel room, raising further suspicion around the circumstances of the death. Based on preliminary findings, hostel in-charge Vinod Singh was arrested.
