In a significant breakthrough for Gujarat police, a notorious bootlegger, wanted for over a year in connection with multiple prohibition cases across the state, was finally apprehended in Gurugram, Haryana, on Saturday. The accused, identified as Ajay Shingla, was a key figure allegedly responsible for smuggling large consignments of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) into the dry state.
The Interstate Liquor Kingpin's Downfall
Acting on specific technical intelligence and tips from private informants, teams from the state monitoring cell tracked Shingla to Sector-33 in Gurugram, located near a major industrial establishment. After surveillance, he was detained and formally arrested before being brought back to Gujarat to face legal proceedings. Investigators revealed that Shingla is a wanted accused in several prohibition cases registered across districts including Chhota Udepur, Anand, Ahmedabad Rural, Vadodara Rural, and Aravalli.
"The accused managed to remain underground by frequently changing locations and relying on a well-organised logistics chain. He played a central role in ensuring uninterrupted supply despite repeated crackdowns," stated a senior official involved in the probe. His operation involved sourcing IMFL from Haryana and Punjab and transporting it into Gujarat using heavy vehicles like trucks, containers, and tankers to avoid detection.
Crucial Evidence Seized for Network Bust
During the arrest, police made critical seizures believed to hold the key to dismantling the wider syndicate. From Shingla's possession, they confiscated two mobile phones and a router, collectively valued at Rs 86,000. These devices are expected to contain vital information related to the liquor network, including contacts of associates, detailed supply routes, and records of financial transactions.
A comprehensive forensic and financial analysis has been initiated on the seized gadgets. The goal is to identify other members of Shingla's network and uncover possible links to larger, cross-border syndicates operating beyond Gujarat.

Following his arrest, Ajay Shingla was handed over to the Ahmedabad Rural police in connection with a prohibition case registered at the Koth police station.
