Nagpur University Degree Errors Persist for DNC Students
NU Degree Errors: DNC Students Suffer for Over a Year

Nagpur: For many years, alleged blunders pertaining to nomenclature and faculty in the degrees of Bachelor of Arts - Mass Communication (BAMC) course issued by the Nagpur University (NU) remained unresolved. Now, new ones have been pointed out by other institutions which students from the 2024 passing batch of Dhanwate National College (DNC) approached to pursue higher education.

As on date, the blunders seem to be limited to just the students of DNC, which was first to run a three-year course on annual pattern in 2015. Now, the nomenclature has changed to Bachelor of Journalism (BJ) and course duration to one year.

DNC officials said since beginning the NU exam section has printed 'Degree of Bachelor of Mass Communication (BMC)', which is not valid. Initially, BAMC was listed under faculty of social sciences and later faculty of interdisciplinary studies. However, the exam section printed faculty of humanities on these degrees.

Students from the 2024 BAMC batch alleged they are suffering due to these errors in their degree certificates, even more than a year after the issue was first raised.

As per students, they eventually received their original marksheets and degree certificates in April 2025 after a wait of nearly a year. As the documents carried an incorrect mention of faculty and nomenclature, some of the students returned the documents after about two months.

Students claim that university authorities assured them that the correction would be completed within days. However, despite repeated follow-ups, the error remains unresolved more than a year later, the students claimed.

Recently, one of the students raised the issue at the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest over CBSE OSM row and NEET paper leak at Samvidhan Square. A BAMC student was seen carrying the slogan 'Meri degree pe degree ka hi naam galat hai'.

NU exam section officials said they never received any complaint regarding the issue. "In case students approach us, the corrections will be done," they said.

DNC officials said they have repeatedly written to the university for correction but all degrees come with incorrect nomenclature and under the wrong faculty.

The protester said their first-year marksheets correctly mention faculty of interdisciplinary studies but those of the next two years erroneously state faculty of humanities.
