Nursing institute officials charged with ₹1.5 crore fraud

Ludhiana: Police have leveled charges against a former senior administrator and his son for allegedly embezzling ₹1.5 crore by diverting student fees into their personal bank accounts over a 12-year period. The accused, Rajinder Kumar Bhatia and his son Sunny Bhatia, held key administrative roles at the Satguru Institute of Nursing in Guru Arjun Dev Nagar.

Complaint and Investigation

According to a complaint filed in April 2025 by management member Harpal Singh, the duo systematically misappropriated tuition payments from 2013 to April 2025. Following a detailed probe by senior police officials, the Division Number 7 police station registered a First Information Report (FIR).

Charges Filed

Investigating officer Constable Gurpreet Singh confirmed that the pair has been charged with cheating and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code. The case highlights the need for stricter oversight in educational institutions.
