The Outer District police have detained 203 individuals under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act during a 15-day anti-harassment drive aimed at strengthening women's safety across New Delhi. The operation, conducted by the Shishtachar Squad, combined preventive policing with public awareness initiatives at vulnerable and crowded locations such as buses, bus stands, markets, parks, schools, colleges, stadiums, and pension centres.
Focus on Preventive Policing and Awareness
According to police officials, the campaign emphasized increasing police visibility, encouraging women to report harassment incidents, and building public confidence through regular interactions with women, girl students, senior citizens, and daily commuters. As part of the awareness efforts, officers widely publicized the Women’s Helpline (1093) and Emergency Helpline (112). They also held counselling sessions on personal safety, safe travel practices, cyber awareness, and available police support mechanisms.
Enhanced Security Measures
To bolster security, the district police intensified foot patrols at vulnerable spots and public transport hubs, increased deployment in high-footfall areas, and conducted surprise inspections and preventive checks to deter anti-social elements and prevent harassment. Officials confirmed that 203 people were detained under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act during preventive anti-harassment operations across the district over the past fortnight.
Commitment to Women's Safety
The Delhi Police stated that the sustained community outreach, visible policing, and strict preventive action reflect the district police’s commitment to ensuring women feel safe and secure while living, working, and travelling across the district at any time.
