Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir reported multiple incidents of suspected drone activity originating from Pakistan along the sensitive frontier on Sunday evening, triggering fresh alerts and response operations.
Multiple Drone Sightings Across Border Districts
According to officials, the unmanned aerial vehicles were observed in forward areas of Samba, Rajouri, and Poonch districts. The drones appeared to have entered Indian airspace from the Pakistani side, hovered briefly in various locations, and then retreated back. The incidents occurred on January 11, 2026.
Specific locations where drone-like objects with blinking lights were spotted include Khabbar village and Chak Babral in Samba district, and the Mankote sector in Poonch.
Army Response and Ground Search Operations
In a swift response to the intrusion in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district, Indian Army personnel detected drone movement over Gania-Kalsian village and opened fire. Following all the sightings, security agencies immediately launched extensive ground search operations in the affected areas to investigate the purpose of the incursions and rule out any airdropping of contraband.
This security development comes shortly after a related incident where security forces recovered arms and ammunition in Samba district, which were allegedly dropped by a drone from Pakistan. The consecutive events have heightened vigilance along the entire International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in the region.
