Panchayat Mukhiya escapes firing in Godda, one arrested

Dumka: Panic gripped Poraiyahat block headquarters in Godda district on Thursday after assailants opened fire at Poraiyahat Panchayat Mukhiya Anupam Bhagat alias Laddu in a crowded market area. He escaped unhurt.

Incident Details

The firing occurred near Pandit Tola in the main market shortly after Bhagat (60) left the local State Bank of India branch. Reports said three armed men on two motorcycles intercepted him and fired two rounds from a close range, but they missed the target and fled. Police reached the spot, recovered a blank cartridge, and began an investigation.

Victim Statement

In his statement, Bhagat said he identified the shooters and named Nayan Yadav, Ankit Yadav, and Vikas Yadav, all from the Poraiyahat police station area. Bhagat is a key witness in the 2024 Shailendra Bhagat murder case and recently testified in court.

Public Reaction

After the incident, thousands of villagers gathered outside Poraiyahat police station demanding strict action against the attackers.

Police Response

Nayan Yadav later surrendered and is being questioned. Godda SP Mukesh Kumar said one person has been arrested and the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
