Panchkula: Two Reliance Smart Bazaar Guards Arrested for Stealing Goods Worth Rs 1.5 Lakh

Two security guards working at a Reliance Smart Bazaar store in Sector 8, Panchkula, have been arrested. Police accuse them of stealing goods from the store over a period of time.

Details of the Accused

The arrested individuals are Sahil Chauhan and Piyush. Both men hail from Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh. Authorities took them into custody after obtaining their remand. They are now working to recover the stolen items.

How the Theft Was Discovered

The store owner, a resident of Zirakpur, filed a formal complaint on January 9. He alleged that the two guards had been gradually pilfering goods from the store. An internal stock audit later confirmed the theft. It revealed missing items with an estimated value of around Rs 1.5 lakh.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Based on the complaint, police at the Sector 7 station registered a theft case. DCP Panchkula Srishti Gupta confirmed the registration. Investigating officer Amandeep acted on a specific tip-off to crack the case.

Police arrested Sahil Chauhan on January 10. He was staying as a tenant in Manimajra at the time. The court produced him the following day. Officials remanded him to five days of police custody.

During his interrogation, Sahil disclosed the involvement of his colleague, Piyush. Acting on this information, police traveled to Hamirpur. They arrested Piyush in his native village on January 14.

The court produced Piyush on Thursday. He received a one-day police custody remand.

Ongoing Investigation and Next Steps

Police stated they will question both accused thoroughly. Their goal is to ascertain where the stolen goods were sold. They also aim to identify any other individuals involved in buying the items.

After completing his five-day police remand, authorities sent Sahil to judicial custody. The investigation into this theft case remains active as police pursue all leads.
