Pocso Court Defers Order on Swami's Bail Cancellation

The district special Pocso court in Davanagere has deferred to the 30th of the month its order on a police petition seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to Vachanananda swami. The swami was expelled from Veerashaiva Panchamasali Guru Peetha in Harihar in connection with a Pocso case.

Court Proceedings

After hearing arguments from both sides on June 11, the court initially reserved its order for June 18. However, the mother of the victim boy approached the high court seeking cancellation of the anticipatory bail. Meanwhile, police from the Harihar Rural station filed an application before the court seeking revocation of the anticipatory bail obtained by the swami even before the FIR was registered.

Objections Raised

Counsel for the swami, SV Patil, objected to the police petition. He stated, "While the district court was hearing the police plea for cancellation of anticipatory bail, the victim's mother also moved the high court. This was recently brought to the notice of the trial court. The judge adjourned the date for the final order."
