Police Crack Down on Tyre Tube Liquor Smuggling in Khalapur

Raigad Police Uncover Sophisticated Liquor Smuggling Operation Using Tyre Tubes

In a significant enforcement action, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of the Raigad police has successfully dismantled an illicit liquor smuggling network operating in Khalapur taluka. The operation culminated in the arrest of Dinesh Nare, a 52-year-old resident of Varane village in Karjat, and the seizure of contraband valued at approximately Rs 1.1 lakh.

Tip-Off Leads to Major Bust

The crackdown was initiated after police officer Ranjitsinh Kharade received credible intelligence about the illegal activities. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, the LCB formed a specialized team to track down the suspects. The team strategically intercepted a suspicious four-wheeler vehicle at Kumbhivali village, where they discovered the concealed contraband.

Innovative Smuggling Method Exposed

Investigators uncovered that the accused was using a clever yet illicit method to transport the alcohol. A total of 240 litres of country liquor, with an estimated market value of Rs 24,000, was found hidden inside tyres and tubes stored within the vehicle. The tyres and tubes themselves were valued at Rs 95,000, bringing the total seizure amount to Rs 1.1 lakh. This method highlights the lengths to which smugglers go to evade detection.

The illegal liquor was reportedly being transported to other locations via the four-wheeler, indicating a broader distribution network. The authorities have emphasized that such practices pose serious risks to public health and safety, as unregulated alcohol can be hazardous.

Legal Action and Warnings Issued

Dinesh Nare has been formally charged under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, which strictly regulates the sale and consumption of alcohol in the state. The Khalapur police have issued a stern warning to individuals involved in similar illicit activities, stating that they will face stringent legal action if they do not cease their operations immediately.

This bust underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat illegal alcohol trade in the region, which often exploits loopholes and innovative concealment techniques. The Raigad police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, urging the public to report any suspicious activities to help curb such crimes.
