KOCHI: Police have initiated an inquiry after a message reading “I Love Pakistan” was discovered etched inside a vessel that arrived at Cochin Shipyard for maintenance. Kochi city police commissioner K Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar confirmed that a complaint was received from Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).
Investigation Underway
“We are conducting an inquiry following the complaint from CSL. The investigation is ongoing,” the commissioner stated. According to police sources, a formal case will be registered once the preliminary inquiry concludes.
The writing was noticed approximately 10 days ago by workers performing maintenance on the vessel. Sources indicated that the message appeared to have been scratched onto an internal wall using a sharp object.
CSL's Internal Probe
The security wing of CSL conducted its own investigation before submitting a formal complaint to the police, as reported by news agency PTI. As part of the inquiry, officers from Ernakulam Town South police have recorded statements from employees involved in the maintenance work. Registers and other records are also being scrutinized during the probe.
Cochin Shipyard is considered a highly sensitive facility, as it builds and maintains key naval assets, including warships and aircraft carriers for the Indian Navy.
