A dispute over a collapsed compound wall spiraled into a violent physical confrontation in Poovar on Sunday morning, resulting in serious injuries to two elderly men. The incident has brought a long-running family feud in the Kanjiram Pazhinji area near Korikal Kadavu to a dangerous head.
Wall Collapse Sparks Heated Confrontation
The trigger for the violence was the collapse of a portion of a compound wall near the house of 70-year-old Gopinathan Nair. When Gopinathan and his brother, Ravindran Nair, arrived to clear the fallen stones, their neighbour and relative, Rajendran, along with his family, reached the spot. This led to an immediate and heated argument between the two parties.
Local police sources confirmed that the two families have had long-standing differences, and the wall incident acted as a flashpoint. What began as a verbal altercation quickly escalated beyond control.
Violent Attack Captured on Video
The situation turned violent, and the attack was captured on video. The disturbing visuals, which soon circulated on social media platforms, show Rajendran attacking Gopinathan and Ravindran Nair with a brick. He is seen striking both men in the face during the scuffle.
As a result of the assault, both elderly brothers sustained significant head and facial injuries. They were initially rushed to the Neyyattinkara General Hospital for primary medical attention.
Serious Injuries and Police Investigation
The condition of Ravindran Nair was reported to be serious. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for specialized care. Hospital sources stated that he is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Following the violent clash, both parties filed formal complaints at the Poovar police station. The police have registered cases based on the complaints and have launched a detailed investigation to piece together the exact sequence of events that led to the assault. The investigation aims to establish culpability based on evidence, including the viral video footage.
