A property dispute in Bengaluru escalated into an alleged attempt by a woman and her family to set her brother's house on fire, police said on Monday. The incident took place in the Byrasandra area of south Bengaluru.
Complaint and allegations
Ashwini S, 35, a resident of 9th Cross, filed a complaint stating that she and her husband, Umesh, live with their children on the ground floor of a four-storey building. The property originally belonged to Umesh's father and is now registered in Umesh's name, who later constructed the upper floors. Umesh's elder sister, Meenakshi, resides nearby with her family. A civil dispute over the property is currently pending in court.
According to Ashwini, Meenakshi, along with her husband and children, entered the building premises and vandalized the house, smashing doors and windows. They also destroyed CCTV cameras. Meenakshi allegedly used abusive language and issued threats.
Arson attempt
Ashwini further accused her sister-in-law of pouring petrol all over the house and threatening to set it on fire. She immediately called the police helpline 112, and Hoysala station police rushed to the spot, bringing the situation under control. A police officer stated that the family frequently argues over the property matter. CCTV footage from before the cameras were damaged is available for investigation.
