The Pune city police on Tuesday issued an order prohibiting protests and agitations at the Wadgaon Bridge on the Katraj-Dehu road bypass. This decision comes in the wake of demonstrations by villagers and relatives of a three-year-old girl who was raped and murdered by 65-year-old Bhimrao Kamble on Friday.
Background of the Incident
The heinous crime sparked outrage among the local community. On Saturday, villagers and family members of the victim staged a protest on the bypass, blocking traffic for over four hours. The police had to use mild force to disperse the crowd and restore vehicular movement on the route that connects Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Police Action and Restrictions
To prevent further disruptions, the Pune city police have imposed a ban on any form of protest or agitation at the Wadgaon Bridge and also at the Wadgaon chowk on Sinhagad Road. The police stated that no permission will be granted for such activities at these locations. The order aims to maintain public order and ensure smooth traffic flow on this important bypass.
The accused, Bhimrao Kamble, has been arrested and is facing charges of rape and murder. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have assured strict action against the perpetrator.
