Tragic Road Accident Claims Lives of Mother, Toddler, and Grandmother After Birthday Celebrations

A heart-wrenching road accident on the Pune-Solapur highway has left a family shattered, claiming the lives of a young mother, her two-year-old son, and the mother's grandmother. The tragedy unfolded on Thursday evening, mere hours after the family had gathered to celebrate the toddler's birthday.

Details of the Fatal Crash

The incident occurred at Dalaj in Indapur taluka, approximately 110 kilometers from Pune city. According to police reports, the family was traveling in a van when one of its tyres developed a leak, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a stationary truck parked along the highway around 5 PM.

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Aditi Hatekar, 25, from Sangola in Solapur district
  • Her son Jay, 2, also from Sangola
  • Sakhubai Gejage, 72, from Patas in Daund taluka, who was Aditi's grandmother

Police confirmed that all three victims died instantly at the scene of the accident.

Injured Family Members and Birthday Celebration Turned Tragic

Three other family members sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to a nearby hospital by local residents. The injured include:

  1. Kabirdas Gejage, 50, son of Sakhubai Gejage
  2. Swati Gejage, 34, Kabirdas's wife
  3. Samruddhi Gejage, 10 months old, daughter of Kabirdas and Swati

Sub-inspector Amit Patil of the Bhigwan police provided crucial details about the family's movements prior to the accident. "The Gejage family, originally from Patas in Daund taluka of Pune district, had traveled to Sangola in Solapur district in the morning to celebrate Jay's second birthday," Patil explained. "After the birthday festivities concluded, the family began their return journey to Patas. Jay and his mother Aditi joined them for the trip back home."

Police Investigation and Family Background

The Bhigwan police have registered a case of accidental death and are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities noted that Sakhubai Gejage was an ex-serviceman, adding another layer of tragedy to the loss of a family member who had served the nation.

An officer from the Pune Rural police emphasized the sudden turn of events, highlighting how a day of celebration transformed into unimaginable grief within hours. The accident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety measures on India's highways.

As the investigation progresses, the community mourns the loss of three generations taken too soon, while the injured family members recover from both physical wounds and emotional trauma. The incident has left residents of both Sangola and Patas in shock, with many expressing condolences for the bereaved family.
