Punjab Police Thwarts Major Gangster Plot
In a significant breakthrough, the Punjab Police's Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) successfully foiled a dangerous criminal plot and apprehended two operatives connected to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The joint operation conducted with SAS Nagar Police on Wednesday led to the dramatic arrest following an exchange of gunfire.
Encounter at Ghaghar Bridge
The operation reached its climax at Ghaghar Bridge located on the busy Ambala-Dera Bassi highway. The two arrested gang members have been identified as Sharanjit Singh and Aman Kumar, both known criminals with previous involvement in violent activities. According to police reports, the suspects opened fire on the police team when confronted, leading to a retaliatory response from the officers.
During the exchange of fire, both accused sustained bullet injuries while attempting to flee from the scene. The police party demonstrated remarkable restraint and professionalism during the entire operation, ensuring the suspects were apprehended alive despite the dangerous circumstances.
Criminal Background and Recovery
Preliminary investigations have revealed disturbing details about the duo's criminal activities. Both suspects were involved in a recent shootout at Rajpura, indicating their escalating criminal behavior. The investigation further uncovered that they had received direct instructions from Goldy Dhillon to target a prominent Punjab-based businessman.
Punjab Police Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed in a social media post on X that two .32 calibre pistols and ten live cartridges were recovered from the possession of the arrested individuals. This recovery prevented potential future violence and possibly saved innocent lives.
International Connections and Recent Developments
The case takes on international dimensions with recent developments involving Goldy Dhillon. The Canada-based gangster recently claimed responsibility for the murder of 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman Darshan Singh Sahsi in Abbotsford, Canada. According to Vancouver Sun reports, Sahsi was fatally shot and succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.
In a shocking Facebook post, Dhillon admitted to the murder while alleging that the victim was involved in major drug trade operations and had ignored the gang's financial demands. The Abbotsford Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in the Canadian case yet, and the investigation remains in its early stages.
DGP Gaurav Yadav emphasized that Punjab Police remains resolute in its mission to dismantle gangster networks and ensure peace and security across the state. This operation marks another significant step in the ongoing battle against organized crime syndicates operating both within India and from foreign soil.
