Major Security Threat Neutralized in Punjab

In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Punjab Police's State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) has successfully prevented a series of potential targeted killings across the state. The breakthrough came with the arrest of four members belonging to an organized gangster module that was operating under international direction.

The operation led to the crucial seizure of two sophisticated firearms that were intended for carrying out planned attacks in the region. The timely intervention by security forces has potentially saved multiple lives and averted what could have been a major security crisis.

Arrests and Weapons Recovery

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed on Monday that four suspects have been taken into custody following intensive investigations. The recovered arsenal includes a 9 mm Glock pistol with a magazine and five live cartridges, along with a .30-caliber Star mark pistol with a magazine and three live cartridges.

According to police statements, preliminary investigations have established that the arrested individuals maintained close contact with a wanted gangster based in Portugal. This foreign-based handler was responsible for arranging the delivery of the sophisticated firearms recovered during the operation.

The accused individuals have been identified as:

  • Jagpreet Singh 'Jagga' from Kazi Kot Kalan, Tarn Taran
  • Mohammad Singh from Kazi Kot Kalan, Tarn Taran
  • Lavish Nahar from Amritsar
  • Amarbir Singh from Amritsar

International Connections and Surveillance Operations

Investigations have revealed alarming details about the module's activities. The arrested men had conducted detailed reconnaissance of specific targets in both Batala and Amritsar areas, carefully studying their movements and patterns.

Assistant Inspector General Sukhminder Singh Mann of SSOC Amritsar shared that the module was busted based on specific secret intelligence inputs. Further probe disclosed that the sophisticated weapons were specifically meant to hit the identified targets after thorough surveillance.

The investigation also uncovered that the accused had been actively involved in transporting weapons and money on multiple occasions, all coordinated at the behest of their overseas handler based in Portugal.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have registered a formal case under Section 25 of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar.

The police have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on tracing all backward and forward linkages of the criminal network. This includes identifying additional associates, funding sources, and the complete operational structure of the module.

This successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of Punjab Police's intelligence gathering capabilities and their proactive approach in dealing with organized crime networks with international connections.
