Ahmedabad: An argument over queue jumping at a CNG station snowballed into violence in Naranpura, with a youth accusing a motorist of damaging his SUV with a sharp-edged weapon and causing losses estimated at Rs 90,000.
Details of the Incident
According to a complaint lodged with Naranpura police on Thursday, the 22-year-old complainant, a graphic designer from Ghatlodia, was at a CNG station in Pragatinagar around 11.40pm on June 15 along with a friend. He was waiting in line to refuel his SUV when a taxi allegedly cut in. This led to an argument, after which the taxi driver moved to the end of the queue and the matter appeared to have been resolved.
Resurfacing of the Dispute
However, police said the dispute resurfaced nearly an hour later. After refuelling, the complainant and his friend drove to Shastrinagar crossroads, where they parked their SUV on the roadside and were eating ice-cream inside the vehicle.
The FIR states that the same taxi driver allegedly arrived at the spot and parked his vehicle next to the complainant’s SUV. He then allegedly asked the complainant to roll down the window and step out of the vehicle. The accused is alleged to have verbally abused the complainant during an ensuing argument before attacking the SUV with a machete, shattering several windows and causing further damage to the vehicle.
Estimated Loss and Legal Action
Police said the complainant estimated the loss at around Rs 90,000. After the attack, the accused allegedly fled in his vehicle. Based on the registration number provided by the complainant, Naranpura police have registered a case of criminal intimidation, mischief and causing damage to property.
