Mother Files Complaint Against Accused's Family

Thirteen days after a 20-year-old rape survivor died by suicide in Morbi district, her mother has filed a police complaint naming the rape accused's wife, her brother and his wife for relentlessly threatening and mentally torturing her daughter to force her to withdraw the rape case, ultimately driving her to take the extreme step.

Details of the Rape Incident

The woman, who worked in an electronics showroom in Morbi, was allegedly raped by her distant relative in Rajkot in May. She went to stay with a relative, who happens to be her distant aunt, because her employer had sent her for training to the city. At their house, the brother-in-law of her aunt started making sexual advances at her and allegedly raped her on May 28. The woman filed a complaint against him at the Morbi 'A' Division police station, and he was arrested.

Threats and Harassment After Arrest

After his arrest, the arrested accused's wife, his brother, and his wife (distant aunt) allegedly began threatening her with dire consequences to drop the complaint and strike a compromise with the family. The harassment persisted, and on June 7, her mother rushed to her daughter's room, only to find the door locked from the inside and her daughter dead.
