Ancestral Land Dispute Ends in Tragedy in Ratlam Village
A bitter ancestral land dispute that had been festering for years turned fatal on Saturday evening in Dhatrawada village near Jaora of Ratlam district, resulting in the death of a young man allegedly at the hands of his own maternal uncle.
The violent confrontation claimed the life of Amritram Patidar, an unmarried man who lived alone, while his maternal uncle Badri alias Samrath Patidar sustained serious injuries and required hospitalization at Ratlam Medical College.
The Fatal Confrontation
According to police reports, the incident occurred when Samrath was returning from his agricultural field with his wife around Saturday evening. Initial investigations suggest that Amritram allegedly attacked his uncle from behind with a stone, triggering a physical struggle between the two relatives.
During the intense scuffle that followed, Samrath reportedly managed to wrestle his nephew to the ground. In what police describe as an act of self-defense that turned fatal, the uncle then allegedly grabbed a stone and struck Amritram on the head, causing severe injuries that proved immediately fatal.
Amritram Patidar died on the spot, bringing a violent end to the long-standing property dispute that had even reached the court system.
Background of the Property Conflict
Police officials revealed that the root cause of the tragedy was an ongoing dispute over ancestral land inheritance. Amritram had been demanding his mother's share of the ancestral property from his uncle Samrath. The mother, who lives separately from both parties, had a legitimate claim to the land that had become the center of the family conflict.
Senior police officials including Jaora SDOP Sandeep Malviya and Rignod police station in-charge Anand Singh Azad arrived at the scene late Saturday night to oversee the investigation. The incident occurred in Dhatrawada village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Rignod police station's Asawati outpost.
Police Investigation and Aftermath
The body of Amritram Patidar was sent to Jaora Government Hospital for a postmortem examination, which was conducted on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the accused Samrath received preliminary treatment in Jaora before being referred to Ratlam Medical College late Saturday night for specialized care due to the severity of his injuries.
ASP Rakesh Khakha confirmed to media that a case of murder has been registered and authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the sequence of events. The police are examining all aspects of the long-standing land dispute that ultimately culminated in this tragic loss of life.
According to SDOP Sandeep Malviya, the initial investigation supports the version that the nephew initiated the attack while the uncle was returning from the field, leading to the physical confrontation that turned deadly. The accused sustained injuries to his head and other body parts during the conflict.
This tragic incident highlights the serious consequences that can arise from unresolved family property disputes in rural India, particularly when legal proceedings fail to provide timely resolution to conflicting claims over ancestral land.
