Retired Electricity Officer Killed in Yamunanagar Village
An 86-year-old retired Superintendent from Himachal's electricity department, Jagdish Prasad Bansal, was allegedly murdered at his residence in Jathlana village, Yamunanagar district. Police suspect robbery as the motive after household items were found scattered and valuables reported stolen.
In a complaint to the police, the deceased's son, Rakesh Kumar Bansal, who currently resides in Zirakpur (Punjab), stated that his father had been living alone in the ancestral house since his mother's death in 2017.
Rakesh informed that a domestic help named Rukhsana had been caring for his father for the past 10 years. She would arrive daily around 8 am and leave in the evening.
“My father stayed alone at night. On Friday morning, when Rukhsana came, she found the gallery door locked from inside. Several calls to my father's phone went unanswered, and there was no response despite calling out,” Rakesh told police.
He added that the house-help immediately informed him and dialed police emergency number 112.
“I rushed from Zirakpur to our village and found my father's body lying on a bed in a room, soaked in blood, with a severe head injury apparently caused by a heavy object. Household articles were found scattered,” Rakesh reported.
He alleged that Rs 10,000 in cash, passbooks from Post Office, SBI and HDFC bank, two cheque books, two LPG cylinders, important documents, and both phones belonging to his father were missing.
Based on the son's complaint, a case has been registered against unidentified persons under Section 331 (8) of BNS at Jathlana police station on Friday.
Chamkaur Singh, PR official of Yamunanagar district police, said that SP Kamaldeep Goyal visited the spot and instructed the SHO and other officers to solve the case promptly.
Amit Kumar, SHO of Jathlana police station, stated that after post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family. “Investigations are ongoing on various aspects to quickly uncover the cause of the murder,” said SHO Kumar.
