Retired RPF Officer Dies in Gurgaon Hit-and-Run During Morning Walk
A 75-year-old retired senior officer of the Railway Police Force (RPF) was killed in a hit-and-run incident while returning home from his morning walk in Gurgaon's Sector 39 on Friday. The deceased, identified as Dhanwant Singh Yadav, served as deputy director of crime during his distinguished career and received the President's medal for distinguished service in 2004.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The incident occurred around 6am opposite the PNB office on the main road in Sector 39. According to police reports, Yadav had left his home in Sector 39 Housing Board around 5am with his wife for their routine walk at Tau Devi Lal stadium. The couple walked separately inside the stadium, and after approximately one hour, Yadav began heading back home alone.
"The stretch where the accident occurred does not have CCTV coverage," a police officer stated. "We are scanning footage from GMDA cameras in nearby areas to identify the vehicle involved in this tragic incident."
Two passersby discovered Yadav lying injured on the road approximately 15 minutes after the accident. Despite his injuries, Yadav remained conscious and provided his wife's phone number to the witnesses. The men immediately contacted his wife, who rushed to the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Family's Heartbreaking Account
Yadav is survived by his wife Susheela, daughter Meenakshi, and son. His daughter shared that her parents had maintained their morning walk routine since moving to Gurgaon in 2019. "He always came back before my mother; she spent 20 minutes more at the stadium, while my father came home sooner for yoga," Meenakshi explained. "He was a senior commandant and DSP in RPF, retiring in 2010 as deputy director crime from Delhi."
Yadav's wife Susheela described the devastating moment: "My world collapsed in front of my eyes. The driver could have stopped and taken him to the hospital. When I received a call past 6am, he was conscious. By the time we reached the hospital, he died."
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Police received formal information about the incident around 8:45am. A case has been registered at Sadar police station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities confirmed that the postmortem examination has been conducted and the body has been handed over to the family for final rites.
The investigation continues as police work to identify the exact vehicle involved in the fatal collision. The absence of CCTV cameras at the accident site presents a significant challenge for investigators, who are relying on footage from surrounding areas to piece together what happened.

In a separate incident, a 30-year-old truck driver died after his vehicle collided with another truck near a railway crossing in Garhi village on the Pataudi-Gurgaon road on Thursday morning. The deceased, identified as Sanjay from Sonipat, was driving when the truck ahead of him applied sudden brakes around 10:30am.
Police reported that Sanjay failed to stop in time and crashed into the vehicle ahead. The impact left him severely injured inside the cabin. Local residents alerted authorities, who transported him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body was sent for postmortem before being returned to his family.
Motorcycle Crash Proves Fatal
Another tragic accident occurred late Thursday night when a 36-year-old man died after his motorcycle crashed into a stationary tractor-trolley near Silani village on the Sohna-Palwal road. The victim, identified as Ravinder from Palwal, worked as a laborer and is survived by his wife and five children.
"Ravinder was returning home from a cousin's wedding when his bike crashed into a tractor-trolley parked on the road," a police officer explained. "The driver of the tractor-trolley was not present at the time of the incident."
Local residents notified police and called an ambulance. Ravinder was rushed to a nearby hospital but died from his injuries during treatment. These three separate incidents highlight growing concerns about road safety in the Gurgaon region, with authorities urging drivers to exercise greater caution and follow traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies.
