Major Drug Bust in Sundargarh: Excise Officials Nab Two, Seize Ganja Worth Rs 15 Lakh

In a significant crackdown on illegal narcotics, excise authorities in Rourkela conducted a successful raid on Tuesday. The operation led to the seizure of a substantial quantity of ganja, with an estimated street value of Rs 15 lakh. Two individuals were apprehended on the spot for their involvement in this unlawful activity.

Joint Operation Unearths Contraband in Village

Acting swiftly on credible intelligence, Rourkela Excise Superintendent Jasketan Bariha orchestrated a coordinated effort. He mobilized a mobile unit from Rourkela alongside officials from the Bonai excise range. This joint team launched their operation early in the morning, targeting the remote Kundheidiha village under the Gurundia block.

The raid proved highly effective. The Rourkela excise team discovered a large stash of ganja at one isolated location. Simultaneously, their counterparts from Bonai uncovered an even bigger haul at a separate spot within the same village. The combined findings amounted to a total of 1.5 quintals of the illicit substance.

Arrests and Confessions Follow the Seizure

During the operation, officials detained two men found at the scene. The arrested individuals have been identified as Rajesh Oram, aged 27, and Ranjit Oram, who is 32 years old. Upon questioning, both suspects admitted to their crimes.

Investigations revealed the specific quantities each man possessed. Rajesh Oram was found with 60 kilograms of ganja. Ranjit Oram was holding 90 kilograms. Together, their contraband formed the total 150 kilograms seized by the authorities.

Further interrogation brought shocking details to light. The two accused confessed that they had personally cultivated the ganja right there in Kundheidiha village. They also indicated their intention to sell the drugs, highlighting the commercial nature of their operation.

Official Statement and Ongoing Probe

Superintendent Jasketan Bariha confirmed the details of the case. "We have arrested two suspects and have seized ganja worth Rs 15 lakh from their possession," he stated. "Further investigation is underway."

The successful raid underscores the continued vigilance of excise departments in Odisha's Sundargarh district. It represents a direct blow to local drug networks operating in rural areas. Authorities remain committed to rooting out such illegal cultivation and trade activities that threaten community well-being.
