The Lucknow Police have escalated their manhunt for a junior resident doctor from King George's Medical University (KGMU), announcing a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to his arrest. The doctor faces serious allegations including sexual exploitation, blackmail, and attempting to coerce a colleague into converting her religion.
Intensified Search and Legal Action
Police have intensified raids across multiple locations after the accused went missing. This is despite repeated notices and clear instructions from authorities not to leave the city of Lucknow. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Vishwajeet Srivastava, approved the Rs 25,000 reward after investigators failed to trace the doctor, whose mobile phone has been switched off for several days.
A non-bailable warrant (NBW) had already been issued against him by the court. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chowk, Raj Kumar Singh, stated, "He was clearly instructed not to leave Lucknow, but he went underground. Raids are being conducted continuously to arrest him."
Charges Under New and Stringent Laws
The case was registered at the Chowk police station under multiple serious provisions. These include charges from the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to sexual relations obtained by deceit, criminal intimidation, and mental harassment. Additionally, sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021 have been invoked.
In a widening probe, investigators are examining the accused's academic and personal history. This includes his time as an MBBS student at Agra Medical College and allegations of multiple marriages. Police have questioned his wife and are verifying claims that she too was coerced into religious conversion before marriage. They are also contacting another woman he allegedly married in February 2025 to determine if her conversion was voluntary.
Survivor's Allegations and Institutional Response
The survivor, a nursing aspirant, has provided a detailed account to the police. She alleges that the doctor befriended her in July 2025 on the promise of marriage, established a physical relationship, and later forced her to terminate a pregnancy. The situation escalated when he allegedly threatened to leak obscene videos and demanded her religious conversion as a condition for marriage.
The severe mental harassment reportedly pushed her to attempt suicide on December 17, 2025. She was saved only due to timely intervention. The case has reached the highest levels, with the Chief Minister's Office taking cognisance and directing swift, strict action.
In response to the scandal, KGMU authorities have suspended the doctor and barred his entry into the campus, except for any inquiry-related proceedings. The university's Internal Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace also attempted but failed to contact him for their proceedings.
Police have confirmed that further legal steps will be taken once the accused doctor is finally apprehended.
