In a significant anti-narcotics operation, police in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district uncovered a substantial cannabis cultivation operation hidden within a legitimate crop field.
Farm Raid Uncovers Hidden Narcotics
The discovery was made on Saturday night when authorities acted on a specific tip about illegal activity at Kaneri village, located approximately 10 kilometers from the Baag area. Acting on this intelligence, a police team was immediately dispatched to investigate the farm belonging to a man named Rakesh.
Sub-Inspector Jagdish Chohan of Baag police station confirmed that the cannabis plants were strategically concealed amidst a mustard crop, making the illegal plantation difficult to detect from casual observation.
Massive Haul Recovered
During the thorough search operation, law enforcement officials successfully recovered 57 cannabis plants with a total weight of 140 kilograms. The estimated street value of the confiscated narcotics is nearly Rs 7 lakh, marking this as a significant seizure in the region.
The sophisticated attempt to hide the illegal cultivation within a regular agricultural crop demonstrates the evolving methods used by drug cultivators to avoid detection by authorities.
Accused Evades Capture
Despite the successful seizure, the primary suspect in the case managed to escape before police could apprehend him. Rakesh, the farm owner, fled the spot upon learning about the police operation and remains at large as the investigation continues.
Police have launched a manhunt to locate and arrest the accused, who faces serious charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for the large-scale cultivation of banned substances.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Madhya Pradesh police to combat drug cultivation and distribution in rural areas, where such activities often go unnoticed amidst regular agricultural operations.
