The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Thursday arrested a school headmistress and a senior clerk in Kannad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a retired employee to process his post-retirement dues.
Arrested Officials Identified
The ACB officers identified the arrested accused as headmistress Shaikh Naziya (57) of the school and senior clerk Javed Masiyoddin Shaikh (55).
Complainant's Retirement Benefits
According to ACB officials, the complainant, a retired senior school clerk, had submitted proposals related to his retirement benefits, including leave encashment and other financial dues. These proposals needed to be forwarded to the zilla parishad authorities for approval.
Bribe Demand and Verification
Investigators alleged that the accused demanded a total bribe of Rs 1 lakh to process the papers. Unwilling to pay, the complainant approached the ACB and filed a complaint. The bureau then conducted a verification exercise on June 16, during which the alleged demand was confirmed. The accused had reportedly instructed the complainant to pay Rs 50,000 in cash and deposit the remaining Rs 50,000 into the institute’s account.
ACB Action and Arrest
ACB superintendent of police Madhuri Kedar Kangane said the bureau acted promptly after receiving the complaint and verifying the demand. “A trap was laid after confirmation, and the accused were caught while accepting the bribe,” she said.
Legal Proceedings
An FIR has been registered at the Kannad City police station under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigations were on, additional SP Shashikant Singare said.
