In a significant crackdown on narcotics supply ahead of the New Year celebrations, the Indore Crime Branch has apprehended a second individual linked to a drug distribution network operating within the city. This arrest follows the earlier detention of another accused, marking a continued effort by police to dismantle local drug peddling operations.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
The latest arrest involves an accused identified as Prahlad, a resident of Khandwas village in Barod. According to Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya, the action was initiated based on specific technical intelligence and a credible tip-off received by the police team. The investigation was set into motion after the prior arrest of accused Faraz Khan, from whom the police had recovered 11 grams of MD drugs along with a mobile phone in the Jawahar Marg area.
During the subsequent probe, information surfaced regarding Prahlad's alleged involvement in the same supply chain. Acting swiftly on these leads, the Crime Branch team successfully tracked down and arrested him.
Modus Operandi and Confession
Upon questioning, the accused Prahlad reportedly confessed to his criminal activities. His modus operandi, as revealed to the police, involved purchasing narcotic substances, specifically MD drugs, at relatively lower rates. He would then allegedly supply these drugs at significantly higher prices to local peddlers and consumers, capitalizing on the increased demand during New Year parties to earn illegal profits.
Police officials stated that his role was primarily as a supplier within the network, facilitating the distribution of contraband to various peddlers operating in different parts of Indore city.
Legal Action and Ongoing Efforts
Following the arrest, the Indore Crime Branch has registered a formal case against Prahlad at the Crime Branch police station. The charges have been framed under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This back-to-back arrest underscores the police department's focused drive against the drug trade, especially during the festive season when such activities tend to see an uptick. The crackdown sends a strong message to those involved in the illegal narcotics business in the region.
